Top Three Favorite Curly Hair Products At The Moment

Yes, it is true. I am a girl with curls. I have gone through a lot with my curls. For most of my life I didn’t enhance my curls or even show them off. I knew very little about the hair on my own hair, which sounds ridiculous, but it is true. As I got older, I started to explore the hair product world. Because I was trying out so many products, I didn’t want to spend tons of money so I focused most of my time on drugstore products. That is where I discovered mousse.
Oh, mousse! How could I live without you?! Mousse became my best friend because it formed my frizzy locks into perfect spirals, plus it weighed down my hair more so that instead of frizzing out, it frizzed down (if that makes any sense!).

This post is going to be about my favorite three favorite hair products that keep my hair under control. These are my three A+ products!

Number one is my truly beloved mousse! What brand you ask? Well, I have never used a mousse that didn’t work wonders but my favorite at the moment is the TRESemme Extra Hold Mousse ($3.34 at Target). It smells amazing and is light weight.
I have also used and liked the Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mouse ($3.99) because it is super light weight! In a way, I like this and don’t like this because it makes you feel like you need to use more product, but it feels nice in your hair.

Lastly, the Pantene Curl Defining Scrunching Mousse ($3.99 at Target) is also one of my favorite mousses. It is pretty much the exact same thing as the TRESemme mousse; it just has a different scent. The scent is pretty amazing too!

Number two is deep conditioner. My favorite is Aussie Three Minute Miracle ($4.49). It makes my hair soooo soft and healthy looking (and feeling)! I use it as a conditioner, but not every time I wash my hair. I also love the packaging. You don’t have to unscrew or snap any caps. All you have to do is squeeze the tube. I have used such a difference in my hair since using this product.
Number three is leave-in conditioner. My favorite at the moment is Ouidad Moisture Lock Leave-in Conditioner. This is a high-end product. I purchased this at Sephora and it retails for $22.
Without these products, my hair can not cooperate. These are my favorite products at the moment that I cannot live without!

A Tutorial: Cool-Tone Smokey Look - Featuring the Urban Decay Naked Palette

I thought this post would be a fantastic idea. I just reviewed the UD Naked Palette and wanted to show you multiple ways to create looks with the palette. My original plan was to create a cool-tone tutorial and a warm-tone tutorial. One would be more wearable than the other so that I could show more variety. Now, this plan sounds like a good one, but of course things didn’t work out the way I wanted them to, and my camera decided not to work. The problem was that all the photos that I took of the look up close were out of focus (which I still don’t understand because I put my camera on special settings before taking the pictures). This wouldn’t have been so upsetting, except I didn’t come to this realization until I was completely done with the tutorial. Any other time I would have been fine with taking off my make up and restarting, but this was the second time I had done this tutorial and I had had enough! Luckily, the photos I took of the finished look were in focus and so were the photos of the products I used, so I have decided to post the look, without the step by step photos.

I really enjoy the time I spend applying my makeup so I thought a tutorial would be fun. But because this is a review blog, I am going to base my tutorials on a product that I have reviewed.

This look was going to be the cool-toned makeup look out of the two that I planed on doing. This was also going to be the less wearable look, more suitable for the night time. I incorporated the following eye shadows from the Naked Palette:

I used the travel size Primer Potion from the palette and the following brushes from www.sigma.com and MAC cosmetics:

Before starting I just want to add that my main focus for this tutorial was the Naked palette and not any of the other products used.

Step One: Prime eyes with Primer Potion (I just use my finger)

Step Two: Apply the eye shadow Sidecar all over the lid with a flat shader brush.
I suggest packing on this color with a patting motion to reduce fall-out.

Step Three: Apply the eye shadow Gun Metal on the outer-third of the lid and in the crease with a crease brush.

Step Four: Apply the eye shadow Creep (with the same crease brush) in the outer corner of the lid and bring it up to the outer portion of your crease.

Step Five: Take the used crease brush and lightly sweep it along your lower lash line for a smokey look.
Just use whatever product is left on your brush.

Step Six: Apply the eye shadow Virgin under your eyebrow and near your tear duct for your highlight. Use a small pencil brush for this step.

Step Seven: Apply liquid black eyeliner along the upper lash line and wing it out slightly. Then, apply a black pencil liner along the bottom lashes.

Step Eight: Apply two coats of your favorite mascara on the upper and lower lash line.

Step Nine: Keep the cheeks shimmer-free and natural, and then apply a nude lip stick.
Because the eyes are so dark we want the attention on them, so keep the rest of your face pretty natural.

So I am hoping that next time my tutorial will work a little better. My plan was to list off the steps and then have a picture to go with each step.

Watch out for the second Naked Palette tutorial. A warmer look will be coming up soon; after all, summer is pretty much here!

Thank you and have a fabulous day!

The Urban Decay Naked Palette

First off, let me apologize for the length of time that I have been M.I.A. School has ended and now I am back!

Today’s review is on the Urban Decay Naked Palette!

Because mine was purchased months ago, it came with a double ended 24/7 Liner in the color Zero and Whiskey and a travel size Primer Potion. But now, the palette comes with the Good Karma Eye Shadow Brush and a travel size Primer Potion.
*These are not my pictures

I received this palette for Christmas last year and it quickly became a Holy Grail item for me. I use this palette practically every day. I didn’t think I was that interested in neutral colors. Before this palette, I would usually wear All That Glitters by MAC on the lid, a wearable color in the crease (like a navy, dark green, or purple), and then a brown in the outer corner. I never really used all neutral colors because to be honest, I thought it was boring. The Naked Palette turned my whole thinking around.

This palette retails for $48. When I looked up this price it seemed really expensive to me. I thought it was a few dollars less, so I did a little research. The price of the palette did go up from $44 to $48 when the palette was re-introduced with the Good Karma Brush. But no matter what the price, the Naked Palette will always be a hot seller! This palette is sold out pretty much at every store it is sold at, but can be purchased on-line at http://www.urbandecay.com/.

I love the selection from this palette. No two colors are exactly alike. There are pinky colors, blue-ish colors, warm colors, cool colors, matte colors, shimmery colors, glittery colors, highlight colors, transition colors, dark colors, light colors… I could go on and on! And on top of that, EVERY color is pigmented.

Color Description (left to right)
*note: all these descriptions are my own, although they might look different in photos, I described these colors from my actual palette

Virgin – shimmery/frosty warm beige color (Great for a highlight under the brow or in the inner tear duct)
I like this color because it isn’t too sparkly, just the right amount of shimmer for a shimmery highlight.

Sin – a light gold with a hint of pink
I mostly use this color for an all-over lid color. This is my most used color in the entire palette.

Naked – a matte light brow/beige
Naked is one of the two matte shadows in this palette.

Sidecar – a cool tone medium brown (almost taupe) with shimmer and some glitter
Although sidecar does have some fall-out, it is one of my favorite colors in this palette. I like sweeping this color across the entire lid. The glitter is wearable

Buck – a matte, warm light brown
This is the other matte shadow in the palette

Half Baked – the perfect shimmery gold
This is a gorgeous gold which also looks amazing when applied wet

Smog – a deep bronze color
This is probably my least favorite color in the palette, but that is because it doesn’t look good on with my pale complexion. This shadow would look amazing on a tan person or someone with a deeper skin tone.

Darkhorse – a very deep brown with minimal shimmer
I love Darkhorse to deepen up the outer corner!

Toasted – a shimmery medium brown with a hint of pink
In pictures of this palette, Toasted looks extremely pink, but in person this color looks more brown.

Hustle – a purple brown shimmer
Hustle is more brown than purple. Hustle looks fantastic in the outer corner along with Toasted on the lid.

Creep – a deep black with fine glitter
I have only used this shadow in my outer crease and when I used it the glitter didn’t transfer as much as I would have liked it to. Some people might like that about it.

Gun metal – a deep blue/gray with shimmer and minimal silver glitter
This is my least used shadow in the Naked palette and to be honest, I don’t know why. This color is BEAUTIFUL! It would work amazingly for a smokey eye.

...

Along with the Naked Palette came the original Primer Potion and 24/7 Liner. The Primer Potion is the perfect size and there is defiantly enough product to last you a while. I am not going to review the Primer Potion today, but let me just say, it works wonders!
*All the swatches from this blog post were on top of Primer Potion

I am not going to review the 24/7 Glide on Eyeliner in this review, but maybe I will review them soon.

Now lets move on to packaging!

This packaging for the Naked Palette is so unexpected and elegant. It is covered in brown velvet with metallic gold writing. I love it! I also like the shape of the eye shadows because no other palette from Urban Decay looks like this one.

Now, to sum this all up, I love the Urban Decay Naked Palette and would recommend it to anyone! This palette is well worth your money because the eye shadows that come in this palette are incredible and will last. There are unlimited combinations of eye looks that you can create with this palette! To be honest, I can’t think of one con for this palette.

I give the Naked Palette an A+

Maybelline Falsies Mascara

And today I start my first official blog post! I woke up this morning and knew exactly what to write about: Falsies Mascara!

I purchased this mascara a few months after it first came out. I bought The Falsies Volume Express for $6 at Target. I had heard really great things about it and was in the market for a new mascara. After using Covergirl Lashblast Volume for quite some time, I had pretty high standards for mascara. Lashblast was a great option for me because it had a pretty dry consistency, which means it is harder to smear and it thickens your lashes very easily. I have pretty long lashes, so length isn't a top priority for me when looking for a good mascara. I really like volumized lashes but not too clumpy.

About the Product
Maybelline claims that Falsies Mascara will give you dramatic lashes just like those of false lashes. They say that this mascara will volumize your lashes without clumping them up. This mascara is also known for its interesting wand, which creates a spoon-like shape. I purchased the regular Falsies Mascara (meaning non-waterproof) in the color "Blackest Black". Maybelline also caries another type of Falsies called The Falsies Black Drama Mascara, which claims to be an even darker and richer black color.

Clumps?
For the first few weeks that I had this mascara, every time I pulled the wand out of the tube a large clump of product would be at the end of the bristles. Usually I would just wipe it on the side of the tube or on a tissue, but after a few weeks, that problem went away because I was using up the mascara. Even though the wand was clumpy at times, the clumpy-ness (did i just invent a word?) never transferred onto my lashes. So, I agree with Maybelline's statement: No clumps!

Consistency & Color
This mascara has a very watery consistency, but like with all mascaras, after a few weeks they dry up a little and the consistency becomes thicker (which I prefer). This mascara is very dark. The name says it all: it is the "Blackest Black!" I as surprised how dark it really was, considering their is an even darker version of the mascara. Basically, I don't think there is a need to buy the Black Drama mascara. The regular Falsies is dark enough.

The Wand
The wand did take a little getting used to. On the Maybelline website they say to "hold brush with spoon side upwards against lashes" for the best results. Personally, I don't think it maters which way you hold the wand.

The Price
I think that the price of this mascara is amazing! I mean $6! How can you beat that? Although drugstore products are more inexpensive than department store cosmetic items, the drugstore can still be a bit pricey. I have seen some mascaras at the drugstore that are over $10 which can be an annoying cost to pay especially for something you need to replace so often. But, drugstore is the way to go. Drugstore mascaras are as good or if not, better than high end mascaras.

Packaging
As I have said before, I like cute packaging. This product has really nice packaging. It catches your eye on the shelf with its bright teal and purple colors. The mascara looks cute in my make up bag or at my vanity. :)

...

So here comes some negativity. The main thing I don't like about this mascara is the amount of effort I have to put in to make my lashes look false. With a name like "Falsies" you have the impression that this mascara would make your lashes look false with one coat. However, that is not true in reality. With one coat, this mascara is nothing special. It isn't volumizing at all. It separates your lashes and makes them very dark, which some people may like, but is not what this mascara claims to do. With two coats it doesn't get much better. To get my lashes to my liking (to look false), then I have to apply 3-5 coats, which personally, I think is a huge waste of time. While getting ready in the morning, applying my mascara is not what i focus my time on, but when using this mascara that is what I must do. Now, you may be thinking "but, one coat looks fine!" Yes, that is true, but people purchasing this mascara are clearly looking for false looking lashes and one or two coats of Falsies Mascara doesn't do that.

This is with no mascara:

All in all, I do like this product. It gives a nice look to your lashes, but takes up too much of my time in the morning to get the look. But with a price like that, it is a great find. I give this product a B.

Have a lovely day!

Let Me Explain...

Why a review blog?
I am starting this blog to share my thoughts on the products I have used. I am obsessed with all things make up and love anything girly. Usually, when I am in the market for a new beauty product I will research the best ones on Google or YouTube. I love reading other girl's opinions on one product. It's like having an older sister to give you advise on anything that you need. Now, I would like to share my opinions for other people to learn from. This blog will mainly contain topics like "The Best Lip Gloss Around" or "This Nail Polish Did Not Work For Me!" but every once and in a while I might just break my own rules and review a movie I just watched, or something amazing I ate from Safeway. This will be a place to express my total opinion on a product good or bad. I might even venture away from reviewing and just speak my mind about my favorite fashion trend this season.

How do you review products?
I am a pretty positive person, so when reviewing something I do try to find something positive about it. Although, if it is a horrible product I won't make up something I like about it. I also don't let other people's opinions of products change mine. If someone tells me that this lip balm they use is amazing then I will probably pick it up to try it out. But if it doesn't live up to my standards, then it won't get an A+, no matter how much my friend loves it.

I am a sucker for good packaging. Yes, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but in order to to buy something, I have to pick it up off the shelf in the first place so it must catch my eye. So I will be reviewing packaging as well.

I have no problems with drugstore or less expensive products, in fact, I might even like them more than high end products.

Are you ready to get started?
Totally! I am so excited to begin my blogging experience!
